A reminder didn't arrive

Work down this list — it is roughly in order of how often each turns out to be the cause.

Permission

Open iOS Settings → Pet Medication Tracker → Notifications and check that Allow Notifications is on. The app's own Settings screen also warns you when iOS has them switched off.

Reminders off

In the app, Settings → Reminders → Dose reminders has to be on.

Medication paused

A medication with Active switched off keeps its history but sends nothing.

Course ended

If the medication has a fixed course, reminders stop by themselves after the last day. This is deliberate.

Focus mode

A Focus or Sleep schedule can hold notifications back. Allow the app under Settings → Focus → Allowed Notifications.

Why a reminder far in the future may not be queued yet

iOS lets any app keep at most 64 scheduled notifications pending at a time. With several medications a day, that ceiling can be a couple of weeks out.

So the app queues the nearest ones and rebuilds the queue every time you open it. Opening the app once every week or two is enough to keep everything scheduled. If you never open it for a month, the doses beyond the queue will not fire.

The buttons inside the notification

Press and hold a reminder, or swipe it and choose View, to get Given, Snooze and Skip without opening the app. Given records the dose immediately. Snooze re-notifies after the interval set under Settings → Reminders → Snooze length.

Sync, and getting a new phone

Your pets, medications and dose history sync through your own private iCloud. Sign in to the same Apple Account on both devices and everything appears on both — there is nothing to export, and no account to create with us.

The app's Settings screen tells you which mode you are in. If it says iCloud sync is off, the device is not signed in to iCloud, or iCloud Drive is disabled for the app. The app keeps working — it stores everything locally instead, it just does not sync.

Moving to a new device

Install the app, sign in to the same Apple Account, and open it. The first sync can take a minute or two. Restore your Pro purchase with Settings → Restore purchases if it does not appear on its own.

Setting up a schedule the way the vet wrote it

Every day

Add one time per dose. Four times a day means four times listed — there is no cap.

Every few days

Every second day, every third, and so on, counted from the start date.

Certain weekdays

Pick the days. Useful for weekly medication.

Days on / days off

Repeating cycles, such as five days on and two off.

As needed

No reminders. The medication sits in its own section on Today with a Log dose button.

Fixed course

Set an end date and reminders stop after the last day. Use this for a ten-day antibiotic course.

Tapering

Steps of "so many days at this dose", running in order from the start date. The Today screen shows whichever dose applies that day.

The dose itself is free text. Write it exactly as the prescription says — 1.5 ml, 6 IU, half a tablet. The app never calculates or suggests a dose.

Refill tracking

Turn on Track supply for a medication and enter how much you have, how much one dose uses, and the level you want warning at. Every dose you log counts down the stock, and a notification arrives once it drops to the threshold.

The "~4 d" figure on the Today screen is an estimate calculated from that medication's own schedule — how many doses a day, and how often. It is a projection, not a countdown of calendar days, so it shifts if you change the schedule.

After collecting a refill, open the medication and set the stock back to the new amount. The low-supply warning re-arms itself as soon as the figure is above the threshold again.

History and what the statistics mean

Given as planned

Doses recorded as given, divided by the doses the schedule expected in that period.

On time

Of the doses given, the share recorded within 60 minutes either side of the scheduled time.

Skipped

You deliberately marked it skipped.

Missed

The schedule expected a dose and nothing was recorded.

Doses still ahead of you today are not counted as expected, so this evening's dose never drags the number down before you have given it.

Reading your own log is always free, however far back it goes. Pro adds the breakdown per medication.

Giving the vet the record

Open a pet, scroll to Export for the vet, choose a period and tap Create report.

• CSV — your raw log, one row per dose. Always free.
• PDF — a laid-out report with a summary, the doses, symptoms and weights, for the clinic to read at a glance. Part of Pro.

Both are shared through the normal iOS share sheet, so you can mail them, put them in Files, or AirDrop them at the counter. Every report states on its last line that it is a record kept by the owner and not veterinary advice.

What is free, and what Pro adds

The free app is a complete medication reminder, not a demo. Nothing about reminding you is behind the paywall.

Purchases, restoring and cancelling

Pro is sold as a yearly or monthly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. The yearly plan starts with a free trial; you are told the length on the purchase screen before you commit.

Restore

Settings → Restore purchases, or the Restore button on the upgrade screen. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.

Cancel

iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the renewal; Pro stays active until the period you paid for runs out.

Refunds

Apple handles all billing. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com — we cannot issue one, and we never see your payment details.

Family Sharing

Enabled on all three products.

If a purchase went through and Pro did not unlock, try Restore purchases first. If that fails, write to us with the date of purchase and we will help you work out what happened.

Fixing a mistake

Wrong dose logged

Swipe the row on Today and choose Undo. The record disappears and any stock it consumed is put back.

Pause a medication

Open it and switch off Active. Reminders stop, history is kept.

Delete a medication

Swipe it in the pet's list, or use Delete inside it. This deletes its dose history too.

Delete a pet

Swipe it in the Pets list. Everything belonging to that animal goes with it — medications, doses, symptoms, weights.

Change units

Settings → Weight unit. This changes how weights are shown, never what was recorded.

Deletions are immediate and cannot be undone from inside the app. If sync is on, a deletion propagates to your other devices.

What this app is not

Pet Medication Tracker is a record-keeping tool. It does not give medical or veterinary advice, it does not diagnose, and it never calculates or recommends a dose — the dose is simply the text you copied from your prescription.

Treat a reminder as a note to yourself, not as an instruction. If your animal reacts badly to something, or you are unsure about a dose, contact your veterinarian. In an emergency, phone the clinic rather than reaching for an app.
